My Location

Standard Mode
Tap the My location button once to be zoomed to your current location. The map will stay oriented to the North. If your location cannot be found, check in your devices Settings that you have allowed CartaPro permission to use your location.

Compass Mode
Tap twice on the My Location button to enter Compass Mode. Compass Mode will orient the map to your current heading. As you walk or rotate the device, the map will adjust orientation to follow.

 

Workspace

Purpose of the Workspace
The Workspace is your primary location for interacting with GIS data. It is similar to the Table of Contents in popular GIS applications. In the CartaPro Workspace you can interact with common GIS data types such as Shapefiles, KML/KMZ, and CSV data as well as with a wide variety of web services including WMS, W0MTS, WFS, Tiled and Dynamic services. You can also take advantage of an existing ArcGIS Online or Portal account by connecting to them in the Library. Once you have connected to an ArcGIS Online or Portal account you can add Data and Maps from your account into the Workspace to be edited or taken offline.

Default Contents
By default, all of the NeoTreks Maps web service layers are present in your Workspace. For more information about each of the NeoTreks Maps layers, click on the '>' call out icon to the right of the layer to view it's details.

Layer Details and Transparency
Click on the '>' call out icon to the right of the layer to view it's details. You can also adjust the transparency of a layer by adjusting the slider present in the layer's details page.

Edit Layers List
Click on the Edit button on the top left of the Workspace panel. In Edit mode you can reorder your layers by holding and dragging them up or down, and can also remove layers by swiping left on a layer then tapping Delete.

Adding data to your Workspace
Use the Library to add new data layers to your Workspace.

Library
The Library allows you to search for data layers, import web service layers, and add GIS data from my.cartapro.com to your Workspace. There are currently four different ways to add data. Data and Maps can be imported from an ArcGIS Online or Portal account. GIS datasaets can be uploaded to my.cartapro.com and imported via the My CartaPro Content library, for more information see my.cartapro.com . Web Service layers allow you to choose from a list of free data layers or create your own library of web service layers.

My CartaPro
Follow the instructions for Uploading GIS Data to upload your GIS data to the server. Once data is uploaded, simply tap on the data set in the My CartaPro list them tap Add Selected to add it to your workspace. For more on editing, see Editing Data in your Workspace.

Web Service Layers
There are two ways of managing web services. The Map Catalog contains many free public services that can be added to your workspace as basemaps or overlay content. The My Layers section allows you to manually add any web service you wish to your library. Once added to your Library, you can add those web service layers to your Workspace.

Map Catalog
The Map Catalog will display a list of content providers. Click on a content provider to see the list of web services they offer. To add a web service to your workspace, tap it to highlight it then tap Add Selected. More than one layer can be added at the same time.

My Layers
The My Layers library will display a list of layers you have added manually. If no layers have been added yet then this list will be empty. To add a new layer, tap the New button. On the Add Web Service Layer dialog, select the type of layer, provide the URL, and supply a username and password if the service is secured. Once all required information is supplied, tap the Add button to add that layer to your My Layers list. Once it is in your My Layers list you can add it to your Workspace by tapping it to highlight it then tap Add Selected. For more on editing Feature Services, see Editing Data in your Workspace.

WMS / WMTS
CartaPro supports WMTS with multiple layers, however only layers with GoogleMaps compatible tile set (EPSG:3857) can be selected. Only one layer can be selected at time. Layers with EPSG:900913 are excluded from the list of WMTS layers.

Editing Data in your Workspace
Once data has been added to your workspace it can be edited, updated or deleted. How this is accomplished varies depending on what type of data layer is being edited. GIS data imported from my.cartapro.com can be edited and saved back to the cloud. Editable data types include: Shapefile, CSV, and KML/KMZ. Feature layers with editing capabilities enabled can also be edited in real-time and changes can be synced back to the server.

My CartaPro Content
My CartaPro Content is more similar to KML then Shapefile in that it can support multiple feature types in a single file. Where Shapfiles can be either point, line or polygon, a CartaPro Content layer can include: point, line, polygon, text comment, and geo-tagged photos.

Modify Existing Features
To edit My CartaPro data, tap on the My CartaPro Content layer at the top of the Workspace. This will take you to a list of My CartaPro Content layers that you have added from your Library. Tap on the layer you wish to edit to turn it on, then tap on the '>' call out button to go into Edit mode. When in Edit mode, existing features will be listed in the features list. An icon on the left of the listed item will indicate what type of feature it is. To edit an existing feature, tap on it to zoom to it, then tap on the '>' call out to expose the Feature edit tools.

Feature Search
You can use the Search feature within the Edit dialog to search for specific features within your data.

Modify Point
Tap the red Remove button to remove the 1 existing vertex. Tap the Add Point at Current Location button to place the point at your current location. Alternatively, tap anywhere on the map to place the point manually.

Modify Line
Tap the red Remove button to remove the selected vertex. The selected vertex is indicated on the map by a red circle, non-selected vertices are represented as blue squares. To select a different vertex, tap on any blue square to select it. To add to the line, tap the Add Point at Current Location button to place the next vertex at your current location. Alternatively, tap anywhere on the map to place the next vertex manually.

Modify Polygon
Tap the red Remove button to remove the selected vertex. The selected vertex is indicated on the map by a red circle, non-selected vertices are represented as blue squares. To select a different vertex, tap on any blue square to select it. To add to the polygon, tap the Add Point at Current Location button to place the next vertex at your current location. Alternatively, tap anywhere on the map to place the next vertex manually.

Modify Appearance
To modify the appearance of the selected feature, tap on the Appearance sub-tab to expose the Appearance editor.

Points can be depicted as Marker Symbols or as Icons. To modify the Marker symbol, select the outline color, outline style, and outline thickness. You can also alter the point size and point fill color.

To modify the appearance of a line, select the line color, line style, and line thickness.

To modify a polygon feature appearance, select the line color, line style, and line thickness. You can also alter the polygon fill color and fill style.

Modify Attribute
To update the values of an attribute associated with the feature, tap on the Attributes sub-tab to expose the Attribute editor. Current limitations restrict editing to the Name and Description attributes.

Create New Datasets
If you do not have an existing data set imported or do not have a Feature Layer to edit, you can create a new data set from scratch in the office or out in the field. New data sets will become part of your My CartaPro Content and can be exported to my.cartapro.com to be downloaded on a PC or Mac. To create a new data set, tap My CartaPro Content in the Workspace, then tap the New button to create a new data set

Editing new Data sets
Editing a new data set will use the same tools as editing an imported My CartaPro Content layer. For more information on adding features, adding attributes and styling feature appearances see Modify Existing Features.

Save and Export
Whether editing an existing data set or creating a new one from scratch, when you are satisfied with your edits simply tap the Save button to save all your edits. You can also tap on the Export button to export the data set to your account at my.cartapro.com You can also choose to e-mail the data set using the Mail application. To share via e-mail, tap the Export button then tap the Share to E-Mail toggle then enter a valid e-mail address and tap Export.

Feature Service
Add an editable feture service to your Workspace using the steps in the Library section above. Once you have an editable feature service in your workspace you can add new features, modify existing feature attributes and locations, and delete existing features.

Add New Feature
Tap on the '>' call out button on the right of the layer in your Workspace to expose the Layer Details page. On this page, below the transparency slider, tap the + Add new feature button. From the drop-down menu, select the type of feature you would like to add then tap Done. An attribution and geometry eding window will open over the map. You can tap on each Attribute to fill out it's values. To place the feature on the map, tap the geometry button located on the bottom of this window. Next, tap on the map where you want to add the point then tap Done.

Modify Existing Feature
Turn on the feature layer in the Workspace and zoom to the feature you would like to edit. Press on this feature on the map to open the Identified Features dialog. If more than one feature was selected they will all be listed in this window. To modify a feature tap Edit. You can now modify any attibites by tapping on then then supplying new values. You can modify the points location by tapping on the geometry button at the bottom of the window. When you have finished making your edits, tap Done.

Delete Feature
Turn on the feature layer in the Workspace and zoom to the feature you would like to edit. Press on this feature on the map to open the Identified Features dialog. If more than one feature was selected they will all be listed in this window. To delete a feature tap Delete.

 

Tools

Measure Length
Tap on the map to create a linear feature. The length of the entire line, as well as the current segment are displayed. Tap CLEAR to start over.

Measure Area
Tap on the map at least 3 times to create a polygon feature. The area of the polygon is displayed. The length of line segment is also displayed on the map. Tap CLEAR to start over.

Screen Share
Share a screen shot via e-mail A screen shot is automatically take when Screen Share is selected from the Tools menu. You can see a preview of the screen shot displayed, and can retake the screen shot by tapping the Take Screen shot button. Tap the Send button to open the Mail application and e-mail the screen shot as an attachment.

Photo Share
Photo share works similar to Screen Share, but instead allows you to share a photo from your camera roll.

Augmented Reality
Augmented Reality allows you to view My CartaPro content Point files that you have in your Workspace overlaid on the devices camera. To view a point file in Augmented Reality, first import it from the Library in the Workspace so that it is in your My CartaPro Content folder in your Workspace. For more information see Library. Next, turn on the point layer by tapping on it in the Workspace. Once the layer is turned on in your Workspace, launch the Augmented Reality tool and you will see your points overlaid on the camera.

Permissions
CartaPro will need permission to use your Camera and your Location.

Calibration
Follow on-screen instructions to calibrate your GPS location. This involves turning and rotating your device in a 360 degree motion for several seconds.

Distance Filter
You can filter out points based on distance. To only see points that are within a mile of your location for example, set the slider on the bottom left to 1Mile.

Screen shot
Tap the camera icon on the top right of the screen to take a screen shot You can share this screen shot using the Photo Share tool .

 

Search

Valid Search Types
Search for City, State, Zip, or Geographic Places to find their location on the map. A list of results will be displayed that match the search.

Results
Tap on a Result to zoom to it.

 

Offline Cache

Download Grid
When you are in the Offline Cache tab, a green grid will be overlaid on the map. Use this grid to select the geographic areas you would like to download. You may select as many grids as required to cover your area of interest. Tap on the gird a second time to deselect it.

There are two grid scales. Zooming out on the map to a state-wide scale will display grid level 1. Grid Level 1 can be used to download medium resolution maps for large areas, such as entire states. Maps downloaded using grid level 1 will have a maximum resolution of 1:72,000.

Grid level 2 allows you to download high resolution maps for smaller area like cities. Maps downloaded using grid level 1 will have a maximum resolution of 1:9,000. If a map is downloaded using Grid level 2, the corresponding grid level 1 above it is also downloaded.

Max Resolution
The Max Resolution toggle allows you to download very high resolution maps for very small areas. Maps downloaded using grid level 1 will have a maximum resolution of 1:2,000. Downloading maps at this scale takes considerable disk space and is only recommended for very small areas or project locations.

Selecting Layers to Download
Any layer that is currently turned on in your Workspace will be cached for offline use. Ensure that you have the proper layers turned on in your Workspace before using the Offline Cache tab.

Download Statistics
Download statistics are calculated based on the number of grids you have selected, the grid scale, the number of Layers you have turned on in your Workspace and the type of layers turned on.

Basemap
Download a basemap for the entire world. No matter where you go outside of cell service you are guaranteed to have map basic map coverage. The Basemap will have a maximum resolution of 1:1,000,000. You may also wish to use grid level 1 to download medium scale maps that cover your most often visited locations. If you only operate in a singe state for example, consider downloading the entire state using grid level 1 so that you will always have maps when you leave cell reception. You can then use grid level 2 to download high resolution maps and layers as needed.

Cache Library
Every time you download a new set of offline maps they are saved in the Cache Library. You will be prompted to name each Cache Library entry when you tap the Download Selection button. You can tap on the Library button on the top right of the panel to open the Cache Library. You can modify or remove offline caches within the Cache Library.

Clear Cache
This will remove ALL Cache Library entries as well as the Basemap. Only use this feature if you intend to remove all data.

 

Settings

Account
View your subscription details, change your password, or Logout of the application.

General
Set map units to Metric or Imperial.
Set Coordinate type to Lat/Long or UTM.
Force the application to log you out after a period of inactivity.
Toggle a center cross hair on or off.
Set Home Extent button. The CartaPro logo at the bottom left of the bottom panel can be used as a home extent button. By default it is set to the entire world, but you can set it to any location you with. To set this button, pan or zoom the map to the desired location and scale then tap the "Set Home Button to Current Map Extent" button. Now every time you tap the CartaPro logo you will be returned to that map location.

GPS Settings
Allows you to toggle between Standard Mode and Compass Mode using My Location.

Display Help
This will turn on the help overlay tips that were displayed on first launch.

Manage iTunes Subscription

View Subscription Information

1. Tap Settings on your iOS device
2. Scroll down and tap iTunes and App Store
3. Tap on your Apple ID
4. Tap on View Apple ID
5. Sign in with Apple ID
6. Scroll down the App Settings dialog until you see Subscriptions
7. Tap on Subscriptions

Cancel Subscription

1. Follow steps 1 - 7 above to View Subscription Information
2. Tap Cancel Subscription
9. Confirm that you would like to cancel
10. You can re-subscribe at any time by tapping on CartaPro 1 Month

Login
Navigate to my.cartapro.com and use the same credentials that you use to log into the CartaPro iOS application.

Upload GIS data

Supported Data Types

Shapefile - Must be Zipped (.zip) file. Shapefiles must be smaller than 100MB and contain fewer than 1000 features.
CSV - Comma, semi-colon, or tab delimited (.csv) file.
A Google File - (.kmz or .kml).

How to upload data

1. Click on the New button, then click on the Upload button to open the upload dialog.
2. Click the Browse button to navigate to your GIS file on disk and select it.
3. Optionally add a Description to your file.
4. Click the Upload button to begin the upload. You will be returned to your list of data layers.

You may see 'Processing..' text on your markup while it is being converted to an editable format for your iOS device. If you experience issues with processing, consult the error log by clicking on the data layer.

How to download GIS data
Click on a data layer in your Markups list then click the Download button to download the file.

How to delete GIS data
Click on a data layer in your Markups list then click the Delete button to delete the file.

Create New Data set and Draw features

1. Click on the New button, then click on the Draw button to open the New Content dialog.
2. Provide a Name and Description for the new data set
3. Add as many points, lines or polygons as desired by clicking on the Point, Line or Polygon buttons then drawing on the map. 4. Click the Save button to save your new data set
